Biography

Cynthia Lee Mei Fei is a dispute resolution lawyer with a practice in civil (contractual and tortious) and commercial litigation. As a litigator, Cynthia has handled a wide variety of contentious disputes encompassing areas such as defamation, construction, negligence, breach of trust and fiduciary duties, company and shareholder disputes and family matters. Her practice encompasses appearance at all levels of the Malaysian Courts as well as arbitration, adjudication and mediation.

Cynthia is currently a co-deputy chairperson of the Bar Council Women’s Rights Committee and is also pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy (Law) at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.

  • Acted for over 5,000 account holders in a class action against CIMB Bank Berhad and CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad in a dispute relating to unlawful freezing or earmarking of accounts
  • Acted for account holders in a judicial review proceeding against Bank Negara Malaysia on allegations of breach of statutory duties
  • Represented a majority shareholder and director of GS Realty Sdn Bhd in a shareholder dispute alleging minority oppression
  • Represented shareholders of NWP Holdings Berhad in a shareholders’ dispute over the requisition of an extraordinary general meeting.
  • Represented the directors and former directors of NWP Holdings Berhad in a directors’ dispute alleging breach of directors’ fiduciary duties
  • Represented shareholders of Silver Ridge Holdings Berhad in a dispute alleging conspiracy to injure by the board of directors
  • Represented shareholders of INIX Technologies Holdings Berhad in a dispute over the tabling of resolutions at an Annual General Meeting
  • Represented the main contractor in disputes involving a multi-billion construction project of The St. Regis, Langkawi
  • Represented a sub-contractor based in Sarawak in an adjudication proceeding against the main contractor in a project involving the construction of bridges and culverts in Sarawak
  • Represented a local development authority in an arbitration proceeding involving a multi-billion construction project of roads in Iskandar Puteri, Johor
  • Represented the main contractor in an arbitration proceeding against the Public Works Department Malaysia and the Government of Malaysia in a multi-billion construction project of highways in Kedah
